Character Information
Name: Tsubasa Kazanari
Canon: Senki Zesshou Symphogear
Canon Point: Post-GX
Age: 19
History: Wiki covers until the very beginning of GX.
After that, she travels to London to pursue her dream of being a singer. Then she gets attacked by Carol and the Autoscorers, gets her Gear destroyed, rebuilt, and confronts the darkness in her heart to activate the new Ignite Mode and in doing so reconnects with her estranged father. Then she helps defeat Carol.
Personality: Tsubasa styles herself as a sentinel, a defender who strikes down evil with extreme prejudice. She also dreams of being the greatest pop star to ever pick up a microphone. At the same time, she’s also a slightly sheltered goofball who lacks in common sense and isn’t nearly as cool as she wants to be.
As Tsubasa was the first, and for a long time only person to activate the Symphogear, she is driven to fight by a sense of duty, because she was the only person capable of fighting the threat posed by the Noise. However, for a long time she was also hounded by her own guilt, having watched her best friend, Kanade, die in her arms, she decided to dedicate herself entirely to becoming the perfect warrior, and to a large extent, looking for a place to die.
Even after she came to terms with her loss, Tsubasa continues to fight, accepting the fact that she might die, but no longer looking for it, and trying to become emotionally stronger to live up to Kanade’s legacy. Unfortunately, the very act of having to fight, and leading her double life, eats away at her, and she does, to some extent, hate having to do so.
This is because absent the constant fighting, Tsubasa would be travelling the world as a pop star, instead of having her tours interrupted by whatever crisis comes up next. She truly enjoys performing, taking to the stage with natural grace and talent, but that always has to take a back seat to saving the world.
This is to the extent that she used to style herself as a sword, existing for the sole purpose of cutting down her enemies. After all, a sword has no need for tears, regrets, or hesitation. These days however, she prefers “wings,” as per her name “Tsubasa,” with which she can fly towards her dreams.
While she has yet to come up with a solution for the need to fight, she no longer instantly rejects her own ambitions as unnecessary, and no longer subconsciously holds others at arm’s length to protect them from the dangers of battle, increasingly preferring to fight alongside others.
Though with her upbringing being so heavily focused on training to fight, and whatever spare time she has dedicated to the glitzy world of showbiz, Tsubasa has found little time for ordinary things. This means that while she’s very proficient in hitting things with her sword, or singing in front of thousands of screaming fans, she is frequently found lacking in basic life skills. She is a nightmare when it comes to cleaning up after herself, often speaks in strange or archaic idioms, and is very dense when it comes to the attention of others, amongst other things.
Ultimately, Tsubasa is a character with many faces, constantly struggling with balancing all of them at the same time. The fact that she’s dead as a shinki might cause her to lean more heavily towards the fighter side, but she will always try her best, even if she doesn’t quite remember why.
Abilities: Tsubasa is a skilled fighter, highly capable with swords of all kinds with some training in ninjutsu. This includes supernatural abilities such as walking on water, and pinning people to the ground by their shadow.
She's also great at singing and dancing.
Most importantly, Tsubasa possesses the ability to activate the Ame-no-Habakiri relic, allowing her to wear the Symphogear by singing its activation song. While equipped with the Gear, Tsubasa's physical abilities are vastly increased, and she gains the ability to form swords of various shapes and sizes and to set them on fire for more damage.
Strengths: Gifted, dedicated, devoted, cool in battle, passionate
Weaknesses: Crybaby, overly serious, socially awkward, takes loss very poorly, dense
God/Shinki: Shinki
Why?: Considering she spent much of her life calling herself a sword, it only seems appropriate.
Cause Of Death: She's still alive in canon, but let's just say she got killed in the final battle against Carol after exhausting herself.
Vessel: Jet plane style wings with underslung engines. These things, basically.
Name Location: Inner thigh
Power: Fire, fire, everywhere. Usually as part of the jet engine gimmick, occasionally to turn into a big fireball and ram into people.
